Unconditional Call Forwarding to Sloane with Ooma AirDial
📲How to Route Ooma AirDial Calls to Sloane
What Ooma AirDial Is Used For
- Ooma AirDial is a POTS line replacement device for analog systems like elevators, alarms, security panels, and fax machines.
- It is not a mobile line or a typical business VoIP seat like Ooma Office.
- There are no GSM star codes or smartphone call-forwarding menus for AirDial numbers.
Step 1: Physical Setup
- Make sure the Ooma AirDial unit is installed and powered on according to Ooma’s instructions.
- Connect the legacy device (elevator phone, alarm panel, etc.) to the AirDial analog port (RJ11).
- Confirm you have dial tone on the connected device through AirDial.
Step 2: Set Sloane as the Destination Number
- Log into the Ooma AirDial management portal (or the portal provided by your carrier/installer).
- Locate the AirDial line associated with this device (e.g., elevator, alarm, door phone).
- Edit the line’s outbound destination / dialed number or the configured call-out number.
- Set that number to your Sloane Number.
- Save or apply the configuration.
- From the connected device, place a test call and confirm it rings Sloane.
Star Codes & Device Call-Forwarding Menus
- Ooma AirDial does not support GSM star codes like *21, *61, *67, *62.
- iPhone or Android Call Forwarding menus do not affect AirDial.
N/A – Ooma AirDial does not use star codes.
Conditional Call Forwarding to Sloane
👨🏿💻Conditional Call Forwarding with Ooma AirDial
Because Ooma AirDial is designed to emulate a single legacy analog line, it does not support conditional forwarding like “no answer,” “busy,” or “unreachable” using GSM codes.
How to Emulate Conditional Behavior
- If the device connected to AirDial is a PBX or small phone system, configure that PBX to:
- Forward unanswered calls to your Sloane Number.
- Forward busy calls to your Sloane Number.
- If the device is a single-purpose phone (elevator phone, alarm dialer, etc.), set its configured dial-out number to your Sloane Number so it always calls Sloane when activated.
- Work with your installer or Ooma AirDial partner if you need more complex routing (e.g., different numbers by time of day).
Turning Off or Changing Routing
- Return to the AirDial management portal or the configuration screen used earlier.
- Change the dial-out number from your Sloane number to the new destination you prefer (or back to your original line).
- Save changes and test again from the connected device.
Common Mistakes
- Treating Ooma AirDial like Ooma Office or a mobile line – it’s a POTS replacement, not a full PBX seat.
- Trying to dial GSM star codes from AirDial devices – they typically won’t behave like a wireless carrier.
- Forgetting to test from the actual connected device (elevator phone, alarm panel, etc.) after changes.
- Not coordinating with the installer or monitoring company when changing the dial-out number from a life-safety device.
